Just over a year ago, Major Tacildayus “Tosie” Andrews started the website, www.MilitaryHomeOwners.US as a means for service members to buy, sell or rent their homes to other families in the military community. The website is a much needed service because forty-six percent of military families move every 2 or 3 years. Seventy percent of these families live off post, with the majority of them owning homes. Tosie’s unique experiences and exemplary performance keeps her committed to the Army’s way of life and that is why she is committed to www.MilitaryHomeOwners.US.
“Moving five times in 10 years without a child was bearable – you learn to deal with the eating out and sleeping in a hotel room for two weeks until you find a place to live,” said Tosie. “But moving from Fort Irwin to Fort Hood with Kayla – who was 18 months old at the time – was a nightmare.” Tosie thought if her family could move from their current residence right into a new home at the next duty station, it would alleviate some of the stresses of moving. That sparked the idea of creating a real estate website where military families can post their homes for rent or sale and network directly with other military families and possibly cut out the middle man (real estate agents - property managers) while also putting money back into families’ pockets.
The ultimate purpose of the website is to make that next change of station move a little bit easier. To help populate the site, Tosie is offering free home listings through August 2007. After August, a single listing will cost only $20.00 for six (6) months. For your $20, you can upload up to seven (7) pictures of your home, 1000 words of text describing your property and a short video of the residence. The site also provides helpful real estate tips, sellers and buyers checklists and questions to ask your house inspector. “I wanted to make the site simple and affordable for all ranks,” Tosie said. Thirty percent of every dollar earned will go back to the military community by means of donations to redeployment activities and family survivor benefits program.
