Women in Military Service for America Memorial

May 10-11, 2007

Theme: Women in the Military: Where They Stand

Papers and presentations are invited on U.S. and international perspectives on women in the military and women veterans. Members of the military, civil servants, scholars, writers, and interested individuals are invited to participate. Suggested topics include:

Women on the Frontlines

· Military women’s roles in Iraq/Afghanistan

· Current laws, policies and practices

· International women in the military

· Other frontline women—journalists, civil servants, NGO officials and contractor personnel

· Historical perspectives

· Keeping deployed women healthy

Challenges of Serving:

· Family vs. professional demands

· Deployment and families

· Multiple deployments

· Childcare arrangements

· Women’s attrition and retention

Coming Home

· Women and Post Traumatic Stress

· Women veterans’ health

· Coping with life-changing injuries

· Homeless women veterans

· Health research programs and issues

Command Climate

· Mentoring

· Minority military women

· Gay women in the military

· Ethics in uniform

· Sexual assault of military women

· Glass ceiling issues

· Advocating for Military Women

· Women Military Leaders

You may also submit an abstract on a topic of your choosing that deals with other aspects of women in the military. Submit title and abstract or outline by March 5, 2007. Presentations are generally limited to 20 minutes during the conference—if you will need additional time, please inform us at the time of your submission. Note: We regret we will not be able to provide funding for travel/lodging.
